Recipe for success as Shanghai Modern opens in Central Cross
Shaftesbury has announced that casual noodle and dumpling concept, Shanghai Modern, has officially opened at 14 Newport Place in Central Cross, a 48,000 sq ft mixed-use development in Chinatown London.
Designed by Habi Creative, the 4,000 sq ft unit has a modern interior that is authentic to Shanghai design, and includes a show kitchen to display the chefs preparing the menu of fresh dumplings and noodles live. Shanghai Modern offers signature local cuisine, reviving the simple but hearty regional dishes for their visitors to enjoy.
Commenting on the news, Julia Wilkinson, Head of Group Restaurant Strategy at Shaftesbury, said: “Shanghai Modern is the latest exciting new restaurant to join Central Cross, one of the best-connected destinations in London’s West End. Just as Shanghai is a melting pot for neighbouring cuisines, so Shanghai Modern will be offering a diverse menu whilst focusing on Shanghainese classics such as Xiao Long Bao and Drunken Chicken. Xiao Long Bao are synonymous with the food culture in the city and we are thrilled that Shanghai Modern are transporting a small pocket of this to the streets of Chinatown London."
Mr Chu Ting Tang, of Shanghai Modern, added: “With such a central location and vibrant atmosphere throughout the day and into the evening, Central Cross in Chinatown London is an idyllic destination to open our latest restaurant. Our offer is an experience to excite the senses and we are extremely lucky to have such a bespoke space in a brand-new development in Central London.”
