Soho's Bun House chooses Chinatown London for second site

Shaftesbury has today announced that Chinese steamed bun street café, Bun House, has signed for a 1,300 sq ft site at 26-27 Lisle Street, in the heart of Chinatown London. Bun House is due to open in February, coinciding with Chinese New Year celebrations. 

Spanning two floors and with space for 72 covers, the new site is a second, larger location for the brand following their debut site in Soho. Designed by co-founder Z He’s Five Line Projects, Bun House in Chinatown will reflect their colonial style, with dark wood highlighted by brass fixtures and comfortable rattan furniture. 

 The brand will continue their focus on traditional Cantonese steamed buns, with two new additions to the menu; beef brisket and a soft, brioche style pineapple bun. A small hatch serving traditional street food style snacks, such as curried fish balls and cheung fun, will be unique to the Chinatown London location, paying homage to Hong Kong’s dai pai dong food stalls. For the drinks offer, the brand will work closely with breweries such as Moonzen and Young Master to offer a range of craft beers, as well offering as a menu of tea-based cocktails and cold brewed tea.

Z and Alex’s design backgrounds will also add a fresh creative aesthetic to Lisle Street and a new twist to the evolving voyage of discovery in Chinatown London, where East meets the West.”

This follows the recent announcement that award-winning Sichuanese restaurant, JinLi, and casual noodle and dumpling concept, Modern Shanghai, will open new restaurants at the recent development on Newport Place this winter. Distinguished by the name ‘JinLi Chinatown’, this will be JinLi’s second restaurant in the area, taking a 4,300 sq ft unit with space for 150 covers. Modern Shanghai will launch a 4,000 sq ft restaurant designed by Habi Creative, featuring a display at the front with chefs preparing fresh dumplings and noodles.
