Metrocentre shows in-tent with 20,000 sq ft Go Outdoors signing
Sovereign Centros has announced that GO Outdoors, the leading outdoor clothing and equipment retailer, has signed at top 5 super regional mall, Metrocentre, launching later this year. The unit, formerly occupied by Wilko, spans 20,242 sq ft within Blue Mall, and will be the retailer’s only store in the region within a shopping centre environment.
Presenting as a GO Outdoors Express, the store will stock a variety of brands such as Rab, OEX, and Berghaus, as well as the likes of Peter Storm, HiGear, and North Ridge.
Customers will find expert advice and additional services will be part of the offer, including boot and rucksack fitting, with a focus on omni-channel that is designed to meet the needs of Metrocentre’s customer base.
GO Outdoors aims to inspire the nation to get outdoors, and will be bringing the best equipment to its established audience in the North East. The first such store in the region within a shopping centre represents a significant milestone for Metrocentre, having quickly replaced former tenant Wilko, which closed late last year.
Ben Cox, Director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, commented: “The signing of GO Outdoors is both a direct response to what our visitors want from the destination, and a great example of the importance of Metrocentre to the North East. Late last year we were hit with a significant challenge as Wilko closed, but a proactive approach and the destination’s appeal has put us in a position to introduce a brand that belongs here, in good time. GO Outdoors joins us as we build momentum with major retailers, like Frasers Group, Zara, and Primark, all committing to and investing in Metrocentre.”
Lee Bagnall, CEO at GO Outdoors, added: “We are excited to be opening a new location at Metrocentre and to offer customers the best range of outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment. At GO Outdoors we champion time spent in nature for improved wellbeing and physical health, and we are happy to facilitate that for our customers in the North East.”
The GO Outdoors signing is part of Sovereign Centros’ commitment to bring the best stores to Metrocentre, reinforcing its position as the dominant destination in the North East and top 5 UK super regional mall. It follows the recent news of Primark taking a significant upsize at the destination, and tech giant EE opening a new experiential store.
The retailer’s full range of stock will be available to order for collection via in-store ordering, including tents and camping equipment, fishing, equestrian and climbing equipment.
Lunson Mitchenall and Time Retail Partners act for Metrocentre.
