Footwear giant Deichmann opens at the Ashley Centre

CBRE Investment Management (CBRE IM) has announced the official launch of Deichmann, one of the largest footwear retailers in Europe at the Ashley Centre, Epsom.

The retail giant’s new store has opened in the former Sports Direct unit, covering 3,498 sq ft, following a £400k investment by Deichmann, reflecting the brand’s new retail format to deliver a more spacious and modern shopping experience, opposite retailers such as Pandora, WHSmith and Hotel Chocolat.

Creating 16 jobs for the local area, the new store stocks a full range of men’s, women’s, and children’s shoes, as well as unique and exclusive lines from brands such as adidas, Fila, Nike and Skechers. It also stocks its collaboration footwear with celebrities such as Ellie Goulding, Halle Berry, and Rita Ora.

Simon Wilson, Managing Director for Product, Marketing and Communications at Deichmann, said: “Our latest store at the Ashley Centre is a huge investment and will enable us to deliver our wide variety of products to a new community. The designed retail format has gone down particularly well over the last few months, and it’s exciting to launch the new concept within a destination also undergoing significant investment, making Epsom a strong addition to our portfolio.”

Louisa Butters, Head of Retail Asset Management UK at CBRE IM, also commented: “Deichmann is a solid brand to have as part of the Ashley Centre’s retail mix. Suiting multiple demographics and delivering an assortment of likeable brands, they are a fantastic addition to the scheme, utilising a prominent space within the centre. We are continuing to deliver our long-term strategy to provide a broader offer, with the likes of JD and GAIL’s selecting the Ashley Centre, as well as welcoming one of the largest footwear retailers in Europe.”

The news follows the recent announcement of the signing of JD, further enhancing the footwear offer within the scheme. JD is set to launch a 4,453 sq ft store, adjacent to retailers such as Monsoon, NEXT and soon to open GAIL’s bakery and cafe. These new retailers will form part of the centres £5 million refurbishment by CBRE IM to enhancing the scheme and provide a revitalised space for the community.
