28º–50º Wine Bar & Kitchen sets the temperature for The Yards
Longmartin Properties Ltd, a joint venture between Shaftesbury and the Mercers’ Company, has announced the signing of independent wine specialists, 28º–50º. They are the latest restaurant operator to join The Yards, Covent Garden, the newly re-branded series of interconnecting courtyards that includes St Martin’s Courtyard and Mercer Walk.
Set to open in November, 28º–50º Wine Bar & Kitchenhas taken a 7,000 sq ft space at 10 Upper St Martin’s Lane. Adjacent is Dishoom, which is undergoing a major redesign to mark the restaurant’s 10th anniversary, including an expansion into the neighbouring unit and set to launch in 2020.
As the ‘big sister’ of the brand’s Marylebone restaurant, The Yards’ branch will be a London flagship for 28º–50º. Renowned for its eclectic food and wine offer, the brand’s Covent Garden restaurant will build on 28º–50º’s current European inspired menu and will be homefor a new modern, premium concept to accommodate 180 covers. As part of the relaxed and elegant dining experience, in-house sommeliers are on hand to advise on great food and wine pairings.
Richard Green, Founder and Owner of 28º–50º Wine Bar & Kitchen, Covent Garden, said: “We wanted a prime space with real character for our flagship concept, and The Yards is an ideal location. This restaurant will build on our brand’s strong food and wine heritage, with a décor redolent of our famous wine workshop, but with a modern twist, to meet The Yards’ development ambitions. Our location on Upper St Martin’s Lane is both well-connected and highly visible taking advantage of the dual aspect footfall from where Seven Dials meets Covent Garden.”
Commenting on behalf of Longmartin Properties Ltd, Simon Taylor, Property Director at the Mercers’ Company, added: “The signing of 28º–50º isa great addition to The Yards, especially as it is a well-regarded independent brand. As part of our long-term investment plans for the area, we are creating a strong mix of retail and dining within St Martin’s Courtyard and at the entrance on Upper St Martin’s Lane that appeals to the mix of visitors we attract.”
This news follows two significant investment projects for Longmartin Properties totalling £18m, including the refurbishment of 7,600 sq ft of offices and a 4,000 sq ft retail or restaurant opportunity within The Arbour building on 143 Long Acre. In addition, the £8 million refurbishment of St Martin’s Courtyard is due to complete this December. The space within The Yards will be transformed into an urban oasis in the heart of London’s West End, providing a vibrant space for visitors to relax, shop and dine.
CBRE is the asset manager on behalf of Longmartin Properties and acted for The Yards. The Restaurant Property acted on behalf of 28º–50º Wine Bar & Kitchen.
